The highly distinctive Blue Footed Boobies - just one of the wildlife highlights you discover on a day trip in the Galápagos Islands. On our boat trip we spotted plenty of these distinctive birds on the volcanic rocks along the coastline.

Mind your feet as you walk as you may find iguana tails are incredibly well camouflaged!
Later we spotted a seal actually playing with a shark… which had to be seen to be believed.

Perhaps the most memorable highlights were the marine encounters - finding myself swimming behind a marine iguana, spotting starfish and sleeping turtles on the sea bed. A once in a lifetime and truly unique experience I’ll never forget.

The highly distinctive Blue Footed Boobies - just one of the wildlife highlights you discover on a day trip in the Galápagos Islands. On our boat trip we spotted plenty of these distinctive birds on the volcanic rocks along the coastline.

An early start on Isabela Island - Puerto Villamil was empty as I took a short walk to the beach. This friendly beach town is a lovely spot to stay, my personal highlights being the flamingo lagoon and white sand beach.

During my first snorkelling adventure on these special islands, a female seal came swimming nearby. Agile and playful, she darted around before appearing to become suspended upside down in the water observing us humans with curiosity!! 🙃 A moment I’ll never forget 🌅

A day trip to Kicker Rock in the Galápagos was completely magical!

We sailed through aquamarine waters and spotted blue-footed boobies perched on the cliffs and frigate birds soaring overhead.

My favourite part was swimming to discover turtles gliding beneath the surface, and spotting a couple of hammerhead sharks and reef shark in their natural habitat…

I’m so glad I overcame my fear and swam to see the sharks and turtles. When you see the sharks behaviour, it’s clear they are completely disinterested in humans - and they are actually graceful and mesmerising to watch. It’s a life experience I’ll never forget!

There are some images that stay imprinted on your mind forever.

This particularly distinctive silhouette of a Frigate bird at sunset is one of my most memorable from San Cristobal in the Galápagos - on day one I noticed these prehistoric looking birds circling the harbour.

Observing the wildlife in this unique environment was the greatest highlight whilst visiting the islands, it was a real privilege to visit their home.

Upon arrival on the Galápagos Island of San Cristóbal, I was struck by the sheer number of sea lions lounging at the pier, soaking up the sun.

It was also a real moment to discover our first marine iguanas basking on the rocks (they camouflage incredibly well so keep your eyes peeled for their tails sticking out!)

Puerto Varas, Chile’s ‘City of Roses’ makes an ideal lakeside base from which to explore the surrounding parks and mountains of the Chilean Lake District. I visited Osorno Volcano in Vicente Perez Rosales National Park with magnificent views over Lake Llanquihue before a delicious salmon lunch at Restaurant Bordelago. The Spanish speaking tour made the day all the more memorable - other Chilean travellers welcomed me to join them as we hiked across the volcanic terrain and shared lunch together. It’s amazing how much you can actually communicate without speaking the same language!

Visiting Latin America has been a dream for years. I finally landed in Santiago from Auckland, and my first experience of this beautiful city in Chile confirmed it was worth the wait!
After acclimatising I headed to Santiago’s Cable Car for panoramic views over the city and the Andes as the car ascended San Cristobal Hill on a round trip. A breath taking introduction to Chile! 🇨🇱

It seemed fitting that my last day in Queenstown was spent on a leisurely cruise across Lake Wakatipu onboard the 1912 Edwardian steamer TSS Earnslaw.
The clouds parted as we glided across the lake, revealing dramatic mountain peaks. My recommendation is to book in advance as this vintage steamer is really popular!

Entering the otherworldly fiord of Milford Sound in @purenewzealand : our cruise gave us time to pause and fully appreciate the magnitude of the awesome Mitre Peak, tumbling waterfalls and unspoilt forests that make this remote destination so special. It poured with rain enroute, but the sun shone once we arrived on the boat and recent rainfall meant the waterfalls (and rainbows) were spectacular. #roundtheworldtrip #traveladventures #newzealand #milfordsound #nzmustdo #nz #realnz
